Hey there, Sweet friends!
A simple update to your kitchen and dining accessories can breathe all new life into the space and change the whole look and feel of your home, even with just the addition of an unexpected pop of color!
There are so many different versions of the coastal aesthetic, and we are loving this sunny, fresh spin on the coastal style, which takes a departure from the traditional color palette of cool blue and green tones and brings in a warm, vibrant pop of sunny golden yellow.
A major feature of coastal decor is texture.
This is especially true here in the Lowcountry where woven sweetgrass baskets are created by native artisans who have passed down their craft through generations of skilled weavers. It’s common to see one of these locals riding a bicycle with a basket full of sweetgrass along the edge of the marsh, where they go to collect their weaving materials directly from nature.
These expertly crafted pieces are most often available to purchase directly from the person who made it and can be found at various sites throughout the area, including the city market in downtown Charleston, as well as roadside vendors who set up shop in open-air stands along highly traveled routes in and out of town.
For this place setting, we selected a seagrass-wrapped pitcher and tumbler, along with a whitewashed woven charger to ground the textured dinnerware. You can never go wrong with a set of classic white dinnerware that exudes a timeless casual elegance and offers the perfect clean palette for plating any type of food.
The juxtaposition of mixing modern with traditional, as seen with this combination of modern and vintage glassware and flatware brings a lot of character to a space and acts as a great conversation starter. The hand-blown fluted vase featured on the marble and gold riser in our tablescape is a vintage mid-century find from one of our favorite antique stores that Michelle frequents during her travels, but this amber colorway is available in glassware of all types and sizes from various sources!

Another element to layering in color and texture is the art of mixing finishes.
Don’t be afraid to bring in multiple finishes! We know this can be difficult to wrap your head around, especially if you love matching as much as we do, but using various finishes really does add more depth and visual interest to the space. The best way to approach introducing another finish is to ensure that it is repeated at least twice in the space so it doesn’t feel too random with only one element in that particular tone.
With this look, we paired together warm and cool tones by using both brass and pewter, as well as wood, metal, and marble. The cool silver tone is repeated in the silverware and napkin rings, while the warm gold tone is seen in the napkins, glass vase, and metal stand of the riser. And nothing beats the punch of color and texture you get from a bowl of fresh (or faux) lemons!
Sometimes just a quick and inexpensive refresh of everyday items can totally change your vibe and bring renewed joy to your home!
We would love to help YOU with your tablescape and kitchen styling!
We love helping our clients curate beautiful spaces to share their hospitality with friends and family!
