Christmas in July

It’s Christmas in July, folks!  Now, I know you’ve heard of it before…but I’m taking it to the next level!  Instead of doing Christmas shopping for others right now, how about doing a little shopping for yourself?!  I mean…after months of quarantine and pandemic you’ve earned it!

So what am I spoiling myself with?  Simple – a few summer essentials to get me through the next few months, y’all!  I’m ordering my favorite diffuser for no other reason than it smells SO GOOD and makes me feel festive!  For those slow evenings on the veranda, I’ll curl up on my patio furniture from Brown Jordan with a great summer read.  If you’re looking for an easy breezy book, pick up Feels Like Falling written by my beautiful friend Kristy Woodson Harvey…its a great read, y’all! Of course, I’ll have my lightweight scarf on hand to throw over my shoulders as the sun goes down and it gets cooler.  What’s more ‘Christmas in July’ than a rosemary plant pruned like a Christmas tree?!  Throw some twinkle lights on it for a fun vibe, PLUS it’s pulling double duty for your summer recipes and cocktails!

Speaking of cocktails…what’s more summery than a mojito on a warm summer evening?!  I’m sharing my go-to recipe with you below, sweet friends!

Ingredients:

  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges
  • 2 tbsp white sugar (or to taste) OR 2-3 tsp simple syrup
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 1/2 fluid ounces white rum
  • 1/2 cup club soda
Directions:
Muddle mint leaves and 2 lime wedges together in tall glass.  Add two more lime wedges and sugar (or simple syrup) and muddle some more!  Yes, it’s work, but good things come to those who wait, friends!  Next, fill the glass with ice, pour rum over the ice  and fill your glass with club soda.  Now, the most important part…enjoy your mojito AND your Christmas in July spoils!
